چکیده

Abstract Background Invasive arthropod vectors and the range expansions of native can lead to public veterinary health concerns, as these may introduce novel pathogens or spread endemic new locations. Recent tick invasions expansion in USA has been attributed climate land use change, an increase global travel, importations exotic animals. Methods A 10-year surveillance study was conducted on Block Island, Rhode from 2010 2020 including sampling ticks small mammal avian hosts. Results We report discovery establishment red sheep ( Haemaphysalis punctata ) for first time western hemisphere US. This invasive species collected continuously throughout study, host. document Asian longhorned longicornis state observed at our sites 2018. Finally, we present data two species, lone star rabbit tick, Island. Conclusion emphasized importance long-term detect changes host communities, expanding potential significance humans wildlife. Epidemiology of toxoplasmosis: role of the tick Haemaphysalis longicornis

BACKGROUND Toxoplasma gondii infection is mainly caused by ingestion of water or food that is contaminated with oocysts excreted by cats, or by eating raw meat containing T. gondii tissue cysts. However, oral transmission does not explain the common occurrence of toxoplasmosis in a variety of hosts, such as herbivorous animals, birds, and wild rodents. Little information exists on the maintenan...

Multiple ferritins are vital to successful blood feeding and reproduction of the hard tick Haemaphysalis longicornis.

Ticks are obligate hematophagous parasites and important vectors of diseases. The large amount of blood they consume contains great quantities of iron, an essential but also toxic element. The function of ferritin, an iron storage protein, and iron metabolism in ticks need to be further elucidated. Here, we investigated the function a newly identified secreted ferritin from the hard tick Haemap...

Identification and characterization of the plasma kallikrein-kinin system inhibitor, haemaphysalin, from hard tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis.

The plasma kallikrein-kinin system inhibitor, haemaphysalin, from the hard tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis, was identified. It was found that haemaphysalin inhibited activation of the plasma kallikrein-kinin system by interfering with reciprocal activation between factor XII and prekallikrein. It did not, however, inhibit amidolytic activities of factor XIIa and kallikrein. Direct binding assay...

Vaccination effects of recombinant chitinase protein from the hard tick Haemaphysalis longicornis (Acari: Ixodidae).

The success of immunological method for the control of ticks depend on the use of potential key antigens as tick vaccine candidates. Chitinase is induced by ecdysteroids to degrade the older chitin at the time of molting. Previously, we cloned a gene encoding 113 kDa protein (CHT1) of Haemaphysalis longicornis, and identified the CHT1 as a protein of chitinase (You et al. 2003). In this study, ...

Passive immunization with monoclonal antibodies: effects on Haemaphysalis longicornis tick infestation of BALB/c mice.

Tick vaccine development plays an important role in current tick control strategies. Previously, we have produced three different isotypes of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) which recognized a midgut protein of adult Haemaphysalis longicornis. These mAbs, typed as IgG1, 2a, and 2b, reacted with a 76 kDa surface protein of midgut cells. We speculated that the 76 kDa protein may be an unknown antige...
